MOTOAMERICA 2023

APRILIA RS 660 WINS IN DAYTONA

VICTORY IN THE SEASON OPENER OF MOTOAMERICA, THE AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP RESERVED FOR FACTORY DERIVATIVE BIKES. AFTER THE ROUND ON THE LEGENDARY FLORIDA TRACK, APRILIA RIDER GUS RODIO LEADS IN THE TWINS CUP CATEGORY OVERALL STANDINGS. NEXT RACE: 21- 23 APRIL ON THE ROAD ATLANTA CIRCUIT IN GEORGIA.

The winner in Daytona: young rider Gus Rodio on the No. 96 team Rodio Racing Aprilia RS 660, here and in the other photos of the article.

16 March 2023 - The Aprilia RS 660 continues to be the star of the show in the Twins category of the prestigious American MotoAmerica championship. Winner in its début in 2021 - a memorable season where it racked up ten victories and took the title with Kaleb De Keyrel - the Italian twin cylinder also finished on top in the opening race of the 2023 edition, held last weekend on the legendary Daytona track in Florida.

Astride the Aprilia RS 660, set up by team Rodio Racing powered by Robem Engineering, Gus Rodio literally had no rivals in the first of the two races scheduled, pulling away in the final stages and finishing with a gap of over than 8 seconds ahead of the others. Domination that once again highlighted the competitive level of the Aprilia RS 660 in the thrilling and increasingly more heated American series dedicated to factory derivative twin cylinders. After all, it is not by chance that almost half the riders on the grid - 15 out of 38 - chose to race in the 2023 championship season with the medium-sized bike made in Noale.

In the second race held on the track, which is a true temple of global motorsport, Rodio came close to a spectacular double win, missing out on the win on the final stretch by just 162 thousandths of a second against Stefano Mesa (Yamaha). This placement, however, along with his Race 1 win, still gave the eighteen-year-old rider from Hammonton, New Jersey the championship lead with 45 points.

Gus Rodio (bike no. 96): “It was an awesome first race of the season. I was able to break away from the pack and win my first Twins Cup race. It was my biggest margin of victory and I’m very happy. In Race 2, I broke away from the pack with another rider and had a race-long battle for the lead. I ended up second in a close finish. I’m really happy with this result. I’m really excited to get to Atlanta and keep working towards our goals.
