August 2024 (G.T.) – It seems that once you’ve had a “taste” of the salt of Bonneville, you’d do anything to return and embrace new challenges, as part of the Land Speed Racers team who compete in the Bonneville events. The most important thing is to ride (a motorbike) across this extraordinary and enchanting landscape. The Speed-ITA Team (a prescient name) is confirmation of this: after seven years, the visionary Italian group of vintage motorcycle racing enthusiasts makes its return to the Bonneville Salt Flats at the end of August, with a single goal, and the same vintage bike, specially equipped for the occasion: to break the speed record in the MPS-G category (partially faired motorcycles, 50cc displacement) with a 1972 Gilera 50 4V, fitted with a more recent, so to speak, water-cooled Derbi engine.
The Speed-ITA Team's Gilera which competed on the Bonneville Salt Flats in 2017.
Plenty of passion and a little more experience following the previous adventure in 2017, and the challenge is on! The magnificent vintage Gilera racing bike will be ridden by long-time enthusiast Daniele Restelli from Saronno.
