AN EXTREMELY CHARMING NINETY-YEAR-OLD. The Moto Guzzi Sport 15 is a Gran Turismo motorcycle from the Mandello del Lario manufacturer (100 years: 1921-2021) which is now a classic international collectors’ item. The bike represents the technical pinnacle of the period for a vehicle dedicated to gran turismo. The model made its début at the 1931 Milan show as the heir to the Sport 14, another Moto Guzzi icon, a single-cylinder, four-stroke bike that sold extremely well in the late twenties.

Despite its sporty name, the Sport 15 quickly gained popularity not as a sport bike - of which it did not have any specific features - but as a sturdy and reliable vehicle, suitable for everyday use and even long-range touring.

5,979 units were manufactured until 1939. The most significant upgrades over the years had to do with the engine connecting rod, replaced in ‘33 with a double-T, the introduction of the Dellorto MC 25 carburettor instead of the original Amal, and the front fork replaced with a central spring.

Sturdy and tireless, Sport 15 is one of the most beloved vintage motorcycles among collectors. In the photo: cover of the book dedicated to it (Mucchi Editore), a publishing success.

Moto Guzzi certainly produced faster, more attractive, and more powerful bikes than the Sport 15, but few models like this one were able to win over and charm the motorcycle riders of its time and of today. All due to a combination of shapes, its reliability, or perhaps the reassuring popping sound of its engine. Out of this, the Clan del Volano conceived the idea of an event dedicated to its charm, which has lasted 90 years.
