THE PIAGGIO MUSEUM HOSTS “DAL MARE SUL MARE”, THE ALL-ENCOMPASSING PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION ABOUT THE NAVY

Pontedera (Pisa, Italy), 13 March 2023 - The Piaggio Museum is pleased to host the temporary exhibition "Dal Mare sul Mare" (“From the Sea to the Sea”): a tribute that the Piaggio Group intends to dedicate to the Navy, opening on March 14th until August 27th, at the famed Pontedera Museum.
The exhibition is made up of 24 photographs, all taken by Massimo Sestini - one of the most prominent Italian photojournalists - who has been telling the story of our country's customs, politics and society for more than forty years.

Inauguration of the exhibition, Piaggio Museum (Pontedera), 13 March 2023 - From left, photo 1: photographer Massimo Sestini; Matteo Colaninno, Vice President of the Piaggio Group; Lorenzano Di Renzo, Rear Admiral of the Navy, Commander of the Naval Academy of Livorno; the Mayors of Pontedera, Matteo Franconi, and of Livorno, Luca Salvetti. With them, at the ribbon cutting, the President of the Piaggio Foundation, Riccardo Costagliola.

Sestini's shots transport the visitor to the heart of the daily activity of the women and men of the Navy, celebrating their greatness and sharing their values, but also showing both the compelling and the mundane parts of their jobs.

The great emotional impact triggered by the photographs is also amplified by the layout of the exhibition, mounted on large backlit panels. The installation helps to underline and amplify the immersive and engaging chore of Sestini's shots, thanks not only to the use of large and very large formats, but also to the reproduction of the sounds of the sea that accompany the visitor.

The public will be encouraged to "walk" on the gigantic aerial photo of the Giuliano Prini submarine, captured as it re-emerges from the waves. Even more compelling is a visit to the room dedicated to immersive projections, where there are a series of videos produced by Sestini himself during his collaboration with the Navy. Among these, the one dedicated to the iconic Amerigo Vespucci Training Ship stands out.

Also on display will be the Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello Aviazione Navale, a limited edition made in only 1913 numbered specimens: a tribute to the year of birth of the institution. Unveiled as a world preview last summer in the spectacular scenery of the flight deck of the Cavour aircraft carrier, the bike celebrates the bond that has united Moto Guzzi (1921) and the Naval Aviation of the Navy (1913) for over a century.

PIAGGIO MUSEUM. The Piaggio Museum, inaugurated in 2000 and renovated in 2018, was born with the intention of telling the story of the Piaggio Group, but over time it has become a real temple for enthusiasts, becoming the largest and most complete Italian museum dedicated to the two wheels.
In addition to the five permanent collections, exhibited on an area of 5,000 sq m, there are five temporary exhibitions that allow the structure to continuously vary the cultural offer, ranging from the field of art to that of technology, from popular science to fashion.
The methods of access to the exhibition are the same as those governing access to the Museum. To keep up to date, please visit the website www.museopiaggio.it
